Ladylike croc/alligator embossed purses are in for fall and I am definitely excited.  However, new versions of this throwback style can be quite expensive so my obvious solution is to go vintage.

Ebay has a variety of vintage options starting at just a few dollars and topping out at a few thousand.  In my opinion think a fair price to pay for one in good condition is $50-$150.  This one is at the top of that range, but is in very good condition from what I can tell based on the pictures and description.

Vintage Coblentz Black Alligator Purse ($149 plus shipping)

With vintage purses you must always keep in mind that they are 50/60 + years old and will most likely never be in PERFECT condition.  However, with a little searching you should be able to find one in good condition with-in your budget.  Good search words include EUC (excellent used condition) and VGC (very good condition).  Happy hunting!
